This week, its Babes in The Bleachers. Dedicated to the High School Years.
I was a teenager in the 80's. As in, I graduated in 1985. Right smack in the middle. Early 80's in high school, late 80's in college. I had it all. All of the 80's, that is. heheSo here's my list. The things that stand out in my mind when I think of the high school years.
1. Big hair. Really big hair. And for me it was mostly natural, with no products that are available today to tame it.
2. Braces. For five years. That’s longer than high school!
3. Best pair of jeans I ever owned - Levi’s shrink-to-fits, perfectly fitted, color stripped, re-dyed gray, legs pegged, with little slits at the outside ankle. All done by moi.
4. 80’s music. You name it, we listened to it. Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Lionel Ritchie, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Idol, the Eurythmics, Air Supply, Foreigner, John Cougar, Joan Jett, Go-Go's, Men At Work, Pink Floyd, Kool & The Gang, Queen. Oh man, I could go on and on. I will, however, spare you.
5. Draaama. Is there anything more dramatic that a high school girl?
6. Puffed sleeves, jumpsuits and overalls. (And yes, I’ve seen the overalls hanging at Target this year. Not going to happen. Not with this girl.)
7. Shoulder pads. What were we thinking?
8. Walkmans, cassette tapes, and boom boxes.
9. Under age dance clubs - oh, we were so cool!
10. Acid wash jeans. Yes, there was something worse than shoulder pads.

Wooohooo I am a child of the 80's and yeah we had some awesome stuff.. and some not so awesome.. But really I would much rather have the 80s then the 70s anyday.. ahem bellbottoms and psychedelic shirts.. need I say more??
Sometimes I forget that my older son (38) is not that much younger than you. He had high school in the late 80s and I remember the proms and his girlfriends' big hair. He had a boom box. I had a walkman. LOL And I Loved Madonna!
I smiled all the way through this because I lived it with you girl. I also remember painter pants, penny loafers, Topsiders, and monogrammed sweaters!
hehe i love this- great memories even though i was starting hs as you finished...
Ummm.... I still listen to all that. In fact my Pandora is set to the best of the 80's. Of course I was born...ahem...well.. never mind ;O)
I think shoulder pads were one of the worst things about the 80's. But the music was awesome!
I begged my parents for acid wash jeans for a year. When they finally caved in I am sure they were out of style... But I loved them!
I love your list, the drama bit made me laugh. Isn't that so true? I remember crying about such absurd things!
Just makes me think of all those fabulous John Hughes movies with that wardrobe!
I L.O.V.E. 80's music!! I also had extremely poofy hear. I still do! Ha! In the 80's my mom obviously hated me and gave me a haircut that literally looked like I was wearing a helmet. We now refer to it as my helmet hair days. Yes, it's brought them (my family) many years of laughs at my expense.
LOVE your list. I looked at this listicle and had no clue what I would write. You so totally nailed it!
Wow, this brought back previously supressed memories of my Jordache acid wash jeans that were so tightly tapered at the bottoms they had to have zippers at the ankles so I could get them on. So thanks for that. ;)
Ally, we are apparently the same age. This was pretty much high school for me too (check out my post for some BIG hair pics). In fact, I'm going to link to your post in my post, because it just tells the story so well! Fun times, the 80s. Major fashion void... but fun!
I could write a whole post on 80's movies!! LOVE!
Blue thirty two...blue thirty two...hut...hut
I couldn't resist . Those shoulder pads were hideous.
I'm looking for it but I'm not seeing your jumpsuit-wearing-puffy-sleeved-big-haired high school self PHOTO in here anywhere? (-:
Great list.
Nate and I love our 80s music!
I was a 90s teenager. The 80s always make me think of my big sisters and t their enormous bangs, hoop earrings, and acid wash jeans.
Gah, shoulder pads! I shudder to think I wore them.
I graduated in '85 too!
Five years of braces? Did you lick your teeth for weeks after that?!
