I know you feel all good up there on the stage. Doing your moves, working the choreography, dancing by yourself or with your back up dancers. But, you know, you aren't really original. I have two words for you: Michael Jackson.
Dear Lady Gaga, and any others like you (but especially you, Lady Gaga),
One word for you: Madonna.
With that said, I didn't just randomly decide to rant on these poor, unsuspecting "artists". I just happened to flip past the Billboard Awards and catch both Usher and The Bieb** doing their Thang. All I could think while watching was that Michael Jackson, in all his profound weirdness, had done it all before them.
That led to a conversation with my son, which led to us talking about Lady Gaga (who I actually think is quite talented) reminding me of old Madonna.
I don't know if anything is original anymore. There's always someone that's done it before. Except maybe Dave Matthews Band, because I'm a HUGE fan so I make all exceptions there.
Do you ever start a post and get most of the way through and realize you have no idea where you are going with it? I'm there. Now. I'm not sure this post does anything but date me. As in, make me feel and sound old. I'm not old. Age does not cause random rambling, life does.
*I cannot believe I just typed the name Justin Bieber into one of my posts. MY posts. HERE. On THIS page. What is the world coming to?
**I'm proud to say that that is the first and only time I've ever seen a complete Bieb performance. I'm usually changing the channel or turning it off faster than a match lights gasoline. I'm sad to say that watching the entire performance just made me want to send him to his room for grabbing his crotch so many times while looking like he's still 13.

Not fond of the Bieb. Not at all. The only thing he reminds me of is my first steady boyfriend way back in 1970. Not his looks, just his hair. Another NOT original. All the boys wore their hair like that back then. Well, except for the hippies who had really long long hair.
And? I loves me some Lady Gaga. I think she has her own originality in that she seems to care about the underdog. Can't say Madonna ever expressed that. But the "look" on both of them definitely had similarities.

My oldest loathes Bieber. Until the new song came out. He was like mom I am so ashamed I LIKE this song.. I had to laugh at him...

Not a Bieber fan. Like Gaga, but SO agree that they owe a lot to MJ and Madonna.
Have you horrified your son yet by singing along to HIS music...since it's all sampled from OURS? Hubby swears there's no originality in this generation. Except (and we agree on this) Dave Mathews.
Mick Jagger freely admits that he learned to dance by watching Tina Turner, only Tina could dance so that's kind of insulting since he can't!
I love Bieber and Gaga. But I'm an old club kid and only like artists you can dance to so I also love LMFAO and Chris Brown.
I was watching some old clips of Martin and Lewis and discovered that Lucille Ball took a lot of their bits and used them on I Love Lucy!
No no no bieb!!! Thank goodness lil duck is too little to be a fan of his and Thing 1 and 2 don't care for him. Irishman raised them on 70's and 80's. Just another reason to keep the man! :D
Scripture says, "there is nothing new under the sun." So true. Bieber/Jackson go back to Elvis. All the hip movement...how seductive it was back then. Screaming girls, craziness. My mom felt that way about Frank Sinatra. Every generation thinks they're the coolest thing, when it's all been done before. And yes, understanding this is a sign we're getting old. :-) And mature.
More than half of my posts are just brain farts...but this one I like because I too am noticing that people are running out of ideas and are just copying the past.
We went and saw Avengers on the weekend and there were a few movies that were remakes of older ones. Sigh...
Oh Bieb, I've only heard about 30 seconds of one of his songs. Not a fan. I'm a fan of Gaga but only because she reminds me of Madonna!
I've never seen Justin Bieber perform, but I think Lady Gaga is a big Madonna rip-off.
I totally agree with you on most of the young, new generation of artists ripping of the older generation. Been there, done that; so true! But I did take my daughter to see the Justin Bieber movie a while back and while I don't much care for him, his story is amazing and pretty cool!
