Lost Cause? Or Save?

This is one of those posts where I cry out for help.

I am a woman with issues. One of my issues is my inability to give up on anything that is not completely dead. That's a good thing with people and animals, but we are talking about plants here. Really? Did you think I was talking about people or animals? Hmph.

So about my plant. Once upon a time my husband brought this home from a work office that was closing. For a house plant, it's pretty easy care. I can go ages forgetting to water it and it will still be alive. However, the damn thing kept growing. And growing. I've re-potted it once hoping to offer it the stability it needs to stand up, but it's top heavy. We've turned it facing the corner - bad plant, go stand in the corner - hoping it would reach the other way for the window light. Nada.

The thing is so top heavy, I'm not sure it can be helped. It's also ugly. Really ugly. But it's ALIVE. I cannot get rid of things that are alive. I feel bad.

However, I could probably convince Hubs to get rid of it while I was out of the house and didn't have to watch it happen.

Did I mention we have two starts off this stupid thing growing in smaller pots? They are lopsided, too. Grrrr.

So look at the pictures and tell me what you think. Saveable? (And if so, you better tell me how!) Or get it outta here?

Help me.

It's trying to eat that little table there. And that little
bamboo stick I tried to prop it up with helped for
approximately two days.
Let me be clear - this thing is at least 5 feet tall!

Yes, I need to cut off the dead leaves. But still.

I just looked at the pictures again. I can't even believe I'm asking. On my blog. It has to go, right? RIGHT?!

Ok what you have is a plant that can be trained to grow other ways. If you have cut it back before do it again and replant it. This time put rope and the dowels on it. You could have it growing in some neat ways. Keep turning it about once a week to keep it from doing that reaching for light thing that will also help.

Yes, it HAS to go...you're almost as bad as my friend who has a hard time eating vegetables because she feels they used to be living things when they were on the vine. Just eat the freaking zucchini already!

If I still lived in Seattle, I would come by and throw it out for you! :0)

That plant would give me nightmares. Seriously. However, I wouldn't have the strength to throw it out. I love plants! We have this little ugly Ugly plants in a tiny pot. It has been with us since Joan had her stroke 3.5 years ago. It gets new leaves but never grows, possibly because I never repotted it. I water it when it crosses my mind, and that's not often. Joan calls it "the little plant that could...but really shouldn't. LOL
So I have no advice for you. Just feel sorry for you both. You could possibly donate it to the film industry as a prop for a horror flick. hehe
Have a great weekend, my friend!

My grandma had one of these. I think it is life tree or something. It started dying on her and she put it in the corridor of her building for one of us grandkids to throw it out for her. But we were too busy partying and living our lives to visit her. And the thing turned around and grew huge and lush. Then her neighbors voted to keep it there.
As for helping you: not me. I grew an avocado tree last month and once it sprouted I was meant to cut it down to promote 'bushiness'. Let's just say my avocado bush will not be lush. I even have a hard time pulling weeds out...

Put it out of its misery, I beg of you.

I say, throw an ad up on Craigslist. I bet someone will want it.

I am a nut when it comes to homeless and helpless plants. I will save them from death, even if they are knocking on the door. If there is ONE green leaf... I will keep it... it WILL come back... honest... my mom would tend to disagree....
