That's A Lot Of Peanut Butter

I go to Trader Joe's once or twice a month. There are a few things that we stock up on there - staples and such, that are much cheaper than the regular grocery store. Some of those things are organic peanut butter, as well as honey.

My son loves peanut butter and honey sandwiches. He'll go with turkey for a while, but then he gets bored and wants to go back to PB&H. I use honey as a sweetener - in my coffee, plain yogurt, in baked goods, etc. I don't use sugar or other sweeteners right now. I also might possibly have a peanut butter addiction. None of this REALLY matters. Except when I go through checkout, as I did yesterday.

Checkout Girl: "WOW, that's A LOT of peanut butter and honey!"

Me: It's 3 of each, is that really A LOT? "Well we go through a lot."

CG: "Are you making something good?"

Me: *growing slightly annoyed* "No, we just go through a lot."

CG: "Wow, because with all those I thought you must be making something!"

Me: Are we still talking about this? "No. My son loves PB&H sandwiches and I use honey as sweetener. I prefer to stock up rather than having to come back more often." *annoyed at myself for explaining to her*

CG: "Oh, I was sure you were doing something with all of that!"

Me: *silence*

CG: "So is this like a week's worth?"

Me: Good gawd woman, leave it alone! "Hmm. No."

And with that I left her to continue wondering. I was wishing I'd made up a ridiculous story for how we were going to use it just to further freak her out. Seriously, if three jars of peanut butter and 3 bottles of honey are the most crazy thing she's seen come through the checkout, it was clearly her first day. Has she never been to Costco? I don't know about you, but I've seen some crazy stuff in the carts of people in the grocery checkout, and peanut butter and honey was not anything I blinked at. And I KNOW I'm not the only person that does stock-up trips to Trader Joe's.

There is clearly that line where a checker can be friendly and discuss a product without sounding like she's judging my purchase. I like peanut butter. A lot.

Have you ever had the grocery checker comment a bit too much on your purchases?

I've had them pick things up and turn them over to read the back and then ask me a question or two about it.

JUST SCAN. lol

I'm ok with light conversation but let's not delve too deeply into my purchase choices, okay? ;)

The check out lines at my Smart and Final would end the life of your cashier. All the Chinese restaurants and coffee shops stock up in there. So you'll see an Asian couple with 500 plastic cups, 600 plastic spoons, 40 rolls of paper towels etc.

Top secret confession: we cook hearts, tongue or liver every night for Max. The ladies at the checkout always ask how I like cooking them the most. They then share their Asian grandma's recipes and all along I don't have the heart to tell them that even thought it might be a delicacy in their family I feed this to my dog. Ouch...
And really 3 jars on PB is a weeks worth in my neighbor's house. I am sure there are many other families out there that go through more. Not that it is anyone's business to begin with.

Oddly, I never really have, but I've often hoped they would. In reality, I'm sure I'd be very annoyed, though, and immediately wish I'd never hoped for such a thing.

Before we were together, my husband ate like crap. If he couldn't cook it in the microwave in under 2 min, he didn't eat it. Mostly chips and soda. He tells a story about going through the Target check-out and being asked if he was having a party. "No, this is just my regular groceries." Silly boy.

P.S. Now, I really want an PB&H sandwich. Maybe for lunch tomorrow...

I LOVE peanut butter and honey! Now I'm hungry!
Anywho, there is one check out lady at the place I food shop who literally picks up each item and says what it is. And sometimes she adds a comment like, "I don't buy these. Too expensive." Or she might say "Got a sweet tooth today?".
I just nod and wait. And wait. And wait. I try not to get into her line, but for some reason it is always the shortest line. Hmmm wonder why?

Oh my son could live off of peanut butter. He was devastated that he couldn't bring peanut butter to school because of all the allergies. But he gets more than his fill at home.
Jeesh.
I loathe that stuff.

Sometimes I really wonder how they train their employees at grocery stores. How is 3 jars of peanut butter a lot. It's perfectly common to buy 2 when they have buy one get one free. What's so different about three? I don't like nosy people... :)

I would have to imply something kinky just to shut her up.
