His 80's List - Monday Listicles
Link up with Stasha at The good life for Monday Listicles. It's a different topic every week - follow along and join in. Stasha's a great host and always has interesting things for us to make our lists about.
This week we had choices! 10 things totally 80's, 10 tweets or 10 crushes.
I'm a product of the 80's - and by that, I mean I was a teenager in the 80's - so that one caught my eye. But I gave it a twist. I briefly saw that Stasha's husband did her Listicle. I stopped reading and decided to copy her. Sort of. My Hubs is 6 years older than me, so our perspective on the 80's is quite different. Here's his:
I asked Hubs, "Tell me the first 10 things you think of when you think of the 80's." The following is what he gave me. He might be a little music driven. Just sayin'.
1. The death of rock (insert disco here)
2. The rebirth of rock - Van Halen, AC/DC
3. The death of disco
4. Neon colors
5. Birth of the personal computer
6. Movies: E.T., Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Back to the Future, Fast Times at Ridgemont High
7. The murder of John Lennon
8. Led Zeppelin broke up
9. Punk Rock
10. Yet another decade that the Cubs didn't win the World Series
There you have it. I'm sure with more discussion, he'd go a little deeper. And then all 10 would be about music! Except for #10. He'd still grieve the Cubs.
Now I'm going back to read Stasha's list!

Yeah, the 80s were very different depending on your age. I was 5 when they started, so the first part is a bit of a blur & I was barely getting interesting by the end of the decade. I definitely fully experienced the neon colours, though. :)
It's funny how just a few years difference can really change memories and perspectives on things. I loved Fast Times At Ridgemont High. My BFF and I lived to quote Jeff Spiccoli.
Music is such a great way to reflect on a time period!
OMG number 6! LOVED all those movies. Still watch reruns occasionally. And number 5, birth of the personal computer. That was big for me. I was a computer programmer in the Air Force and introduced to personal computers from the get go. It was a very exciting time.
It's fun reading about the 80s from the different age perspectives. I was in my 30s but loved the 80s. Everything was big and overdone. So fun...
My hubby and I are also 6 years apart, and I swear it shows the MOST when we talk about the '80's. Our memories are so different...loved your hubby's list...have a feeling mine would have looked a lot like that, except insert Red Sox for Cubs! ;)
I think of it as the death of disco too. Thank the Lord! I remember when John Lennon died too. omg, people were seriously upset that day at school!
I think #10 could pretty much fit in any decade, sad to say. lol
Every time I read one of these lists I think "I forgot to include that!" How could I not include Back to the Future and AC/DC? And how about the Berlin Wall coming down, the Space Shuttle . . .

I bet this is one of the only lists that mentions baseball!
Haha! Great list. I was *almost* a teenager by the end of the 80s, so my experience is yet another perspective.
Great take on the list! Funny how almost everything is music... except of course the cubs!
I totally should have had Irishman do the list! I was born in 79 and he was.....older haaaaaa!
It's interesting how different things looked to people who were 10 years old in 1980, not 2 like me. I really consider myself a '90s kid but a lot of '80s stuff carried over in the first few years of the next decade, so I still had lots of memories to pick from.
But music-wise it was all about rap and techno for me. Other than Guns'n'Roses and Aerosmith, rock pretty much went right over my head as something "old people" were interested in.
I bet the boys list of this decade will be down the same lines 20 years from now ;) Happy 2013 xo
Neon colors would be my favorite thing from the 80s that I still use today! I wasn't born until 1984 but I'm still an 80s lover! One of my Christmas presents from Chris is a CD of 80's songs that I don't have yet haha
