Maybe you've seen the national news lately. Besides that young singer gyrating on stage and showing the country just how long that ridiculous tongue is, and besides another mess of a war our country is trying to get involved in, there are some fires. Specifically, there is a giant fire burning near Yosemite National Park. It is devastatingly awful. My lungs agree. Reno, where I live now, is in a valley in the smoke path. Our town has been filled with smoke for days.
Back to my email. Groupon has a deal for me! Here it is:
It was odd timing, but I didn't want to jump to conclusions. Surely it must be well away from the fire, after all, Yosemite is quite large. So I mapped it. The green dot is where the cabins are:
And then I pulled up a map of the fire. Here it is for your comparison:
Not a map reader? See Jamestown and Sonora on the left? See that highway 108 toward the top left? Now see the highway 120 near the center? Yeah. Those cabins, if they still exist, are on the edge of the fire.
Now before anyone tells me that Groupon pre-schedules their offers, lets all remember that this fire has been burning since August 17th. For 11 days it has grown and grown. I think someone at either Yosemite Pines or Groupon itself could have thought this timing was a bad idea and postponed (or canceled) the offer.
I'm thinking it's going to be a slow seller...
Addendum: The lovely Clarinda from Enjoying the Course was more proactive than I was and actually looked up their website and sent me what they had to say:
RIM FIRE INFORMATION:
Yosemite PInes RV Resort and Family Lodging is OPEN and out of danger from the Rim Fire. Highway 120 is still closed going into Yosemite National Park, but is under repair and scheduled for re-opening in approximately two weeks according to local authorities.
And apparently they've sold over 1,000. Wow!
I'm happy for them that they have been spared the fire. It's certainly been a devastating one!
